/meta/ - Site Discussion

yup! our fork of jschan is stored publicly on github, and the database is on an automated backup schedule.
so far, we've haven't ever needed to restore a backup on the live site, but I restored several backups while testing the site prior to launch, so we should be prepared if the need ever arises.

phew, that was very scary. I think I accidentally loaded an old backup on the old server before copying over its data to the new server. maybe I need some rest (^^;)
I tried to merge the two timelines at first, but it would've been extremely tricky and error prone for just a couple tiny bug report posts, so I ended up dropping the posts made after the initial wrong restore.

seriously, I'm not sure I would've realized until after people started posting for real again, and then we would've had to actually lose some posts (or maybe resort to clumsily re-making them).

it was a coincidence. i went to an absent relative's home to feed their kittens then played with them for a bit, then i connected to the wifi and checked if i could connect to marzichan at that time heh. then i went back to playing with kitties.

i played a video of kittens meowing on my phone and they rushed up and inspected my phone from all angles lol, probably thinking how the hell did all those kittens get in that small thing. they saw the screen then immediately looked behind it and were clearly flabbergasted. then they meowed and we rubbed up and wrestled around a bit more. i really like spending time with kittens. they can be so very sweet when they are young. i hope to solidify positive memories within them with me so they still like me long after i visit less. i love little kittens :'(
