I think the news page might be the only one I'm using out of the box. the homepage is a modified copy of "recent posts", I think I made some slight tweaks to the catalog page, and the banner gallery I made myself.

maybe you don't have any options tabs configured? try checking if you have js/options/general.js added to your array of enabled js; that file adds a tab and some basic settings
